Earth Hour
Earth Hour is a global event organized by World Wide Fund, it annually takes place on the last Saturday of March. Its main aim is to raise awareness of global climate change issues and to lead the whole universe to a sustainable future.
Earth Hour is a global call to action against the climate change, and to make the voice of people heard. Participating in this events does not need a certain age, nationalities or race, this event does not care about what country you are from, but it cares about what PLANET you are from.
During the Earth Hour, almost all landmarks take place, including Big Ben, Colosseum of Rome, Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House, Eiffel Tower and many others, which is a symbol for the concept of VOTE EARTH.
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when more than two millions of people switched off their lights for one hour as a stand against climate change. After only a year, Earth Hour become a global sustainability and more than 50 million people in 35 countries joined it. Then hundreds of millions of people participated in 2009’s Earth Hour which made this year a turning point in the global awareness of climate change. In Earth Hour 2010, 128 countries took part in it, turned off their lights and this was the world’s largest global warming and VOTE EARTH action, all landmarks all over the world were dark as sign of hope for better life and planet. Around 11 countries in Africa joined Earth Hour 2010 as to make a powerful speech on global warming and save Earth. Egypt held a high rank in partcipating in this event, all ancient and modern structures were turned off and stood in darkness for Earth Hour in Egypt, The Great Pyramids of Giza and The Mighty Sphinx, the Cairo Tower and the Citadel of Salah El Din.
Earth Hours is not all about switching off lights and electricity reduction; it is also a call to stand up for the future of our planet and to make people work together.
