The Mediterranean Sea
The Mediterranean Sea is a sea which is almost entirely surrounded by land, from the north it is bordered by Europe, from the south by Africa and from the east by Levant.
The Mediterranean Sea borders many countries; in Europe, Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece and Turkey. While in Asia Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, as for Africa, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
It is connected to the Atlantic Ocean and it is considered as a part of it, however, it is known as a separate body of water.
Originally, the name `Mediterranean` is a Latin name `Mediterraneus` which means (in middle of the land) referring to its location, sometimes it is called Eurafrican Mediterranean sea. The Mediterranean Sea is of a surface area of 2.5 million km2.
It was an important route for trade as well as cultural exchange between people of the Mediterranean region; the Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Phoenician, Greek, Roman, Turkish and other cultures.
