Port Said History (A History of Survival in Egypt): Port Said, Egypt, was constructed in 1859 by Saeed Pasha with the start of the construction of the Suez Canal to be the home of the Suez Canal workers, after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, this city started to prosper in many aspects.
Port Said, Egypt, has suffered from a lot of damage during the war in 1956, and it got a lot worse after the foundation of the High Dam in 1960 as it cut off the nutrients into the Mediterranean Sea, that resulted in a lack of food for fish, which was the main industry for the inhabitants of port Said.
In 1967 Port Said suffered from new damages from the Six-Day War, and during the Yom Kippur War in 1973, there was more destruction happening to the city.
Now you can see in Port Said the military museum which houses recent photographs of many heroes who served bravely to defend this city, and all Egypt, and they will always be a part of the city`s history. Along with the heroes of the 19th century, Port Said also was and still is the birthplace of many Egyptian artists including writer Ibrahim Se`da, actor Mahmoud Yassin and singer Amr Diab as it will be always a source of inspiration to all nation, not only Egypt. |
