St. Catherine protectorate in the central part of the southern of Sinai covers 5,750 km2. It was founded in 1996 in order to conserve flora and fauna, around 1000 plant species are in this area, St. Catherine protectorate supports a huge number of wild species as well; including Red fox, Wild cat, Sinai Leopard, Rock hyrax, the Nubian ibex, gazelles, pardus jarvisi. Some are nowhere else in the whole world. It was constructed in 1996, and focused great attention on the flora and fauna and how to protect the coast and unique reeves as well as the sea life. St. Catherine National park also encloses metamorphic rocks and it contains the oldest rocks in the whole universe as well as the highest peaks in Egypt.
