Valley of the Whales:
Valley of the Whales known in Arabic as Wadi Al Hitan was created in 1989, 8 KM away from El Fayoum city, it lies within the boundaries of the Wadi El-Rayan, 50km into the desert, 100 KM away from Cairo.
Valley of the Whales is a priceless geological site that contains fossils of marine creatures, hence it is considered the most important site in the world as it tells us a lot about the changes of life on earth specially animals and marine creatures.
In this area there are skeletons of sharks, whales, and dogfish as they found 34 whale skeletons, that is why this area is called the Valley of the Whales.
This area was underwater over 40 million years ago, invaluable fossil remains of the earliest whales, as there are some evidence that confirm this fact.
Today this area can be reached by a surfaced road, and it is part of Wadi El Rayan protected area, so there are some rules if you are going to visit it like, no photograph, no touching to the fossils, and it`s forbidden to break those rules.
